Darryl Catlin’s vision is to make wine based on a philosophy of creating a distinct, bespoke product with an expression of the local terroir, and with minimal winemaking intervention.
The branding of Catlin Wines aims to display premium wine with style, shelf presence and a projection of the quality within. The Shiraz label is different from the rest of the range to acknowledge that, with the Catlin grape symbol and background “tiling” linking with the rest of the brand.
The tiling inspiration came from a trip to Spain and when looking at the paving I liked the designs. I decided the simplicity of the tiling would get more texture on the label rather than having a boring background. Andrew Downer was then able to incorporate it into the background. There is even a hidden symbol on the label in one of the tiles as a quirky feature for those that look hard enough.
